The Weblinks Collection
  • Digital Dissertations *Free search of UMI's database of digitally recorded dissertations going back about 2 years. Presents citation and abstract. Can also access the full database via subscription.
  • Google Scholar *Scholars and students will really like this feature that allows for search of academic articles and books. In some cases full text articles are freely available and in other cases abstracts are offered. For non-full text articles, users can either access in normal ways (e.g., through university library) or possibly purchase online. While the search functionality is okay it is somewhat limited and not as robust as Google Advanced Search. But in time this could be an excellent addition to scholarly research.
  • OAIster *Ambitious search project from the University of Michigan that seeks to index digital, mostly academic, resources available through libraries and organizations worldwide. There is a lot here including articles, working papers, images and some video and audio clips. Much of the material is on the older side but could be valuable for historical research or for locating research threads. Search function is effective and result format is highly detailed.
  • Office of Scale Research *Housed at Southern Illinois University this site offers information and publications for those interested in marketing-related measurement scales.
  • PapersINVITED *Fee-based site (though free trial available) that culls worldwide calls-for-papers and conference information in numerous academic fields. Currently information in marketing disciplines is somewhat light.
  • Sloan Center for Internet Retailing *This site has a number of technology and Internet related working papers and research tools dealing with e-commerce and Internet retailing. From the University of California Riverside.
  • Small Business Advancement National Center - Conference Proceeding *Provides online access to conference proceedings, including full-text articles, from several different organizations that deal mainly with small business issues. Unfortunately, not all conferences are current.
  • Social Science Research Network *Site is devoted mostly to academic research and contains smaller specialty areas including a Marketing Research Network. The site offers a searchable database of working papers (some downloadable) and email services containing abstracts of works in journals.
  • WebSM - Web Survey Methodology *This site's focus is pretty narrow - online surveying. But the depth of coverage is impressive. The site looks at many issues related to online survey research such as questionnaire design, issues of non-response, participant recruitment, offering incentives and much more. For academic researchers the best part of the site is the extensive bibliography for each category. While marketing practitioners will find an impressive listing and description of companies offering survey software. Both academics and practitioners will like the Guides, Standards and Best Practices area that includes privacy, security and ethical issues.
