Many marketing activities, such as advertising and packaging, are both artful and a reflection of the culture of the times. Thus as shown in this section, marketing lends itself to historic consideration through exhibits, museums and other venues that examine the past.
The Weblinks Collection
D'Arcy Collection at the University of Illinois *University of Illinois collection of nearly 2 million ads from 1880-1970. Online search is very limited (alpha index only) and access to ads is only available for those who visit the libary. The University also has an additional archive called the Woodward Collection which is even larger than D'Arcy but there is no apparent online search feature.
History of Advertising Trust *UK-based educational archive with an extensive collection of advertising, marketing, retail, media and public relations material from 1800 to the present day. Located in Raveningham, Norwich.
Museum of Broadcast Communications *While there is a lot going on at this museum related to television and radio, the most important thing for marketers and advertisers is access to an archivee of over 15,000 television programs, 4,000 radio programs, 12,000 television commercials, and 6,000 newscasts. Site claims to allow free searching though services is spotty at best.
