Search engines are quickly evolving to allow for the search of content within video and audio programming. The Weblinks Collection |
- Blinkx *This site allows for the searching of video and some audio clips, such as programming from major news, sports and entertainment providers. Also offers features for setting up folders that are automatically updated as clips meet user's search criteria and a very neat feature that automatically enlarges thumbnail images on mouseover. Access to some search results may require a fee.
- EveryZing *Using speech recognition technology, this search engine returns search results by scanning both audio and video content. Once located the content can be easily played back. Also, the search technology will locate the instance of the search match within the found material.
- Yahoo Video Search *Yahoo's video search scours the Internet (mostly websites of non-news sources) for video clips. Clips are available in several formats and the Advance Search provides many filtering options. Material found through this search option may prove very useful in educational situations and presentations. Yahoo has also introduced an Audio Search that can be useful for locating radio programming and podcasts.
- YouTube *The market leader in consumer-generated and uploaded video also offeres a surprising number of videos that are useful to marketers. The most obvious are uploaded television and web video advertisements, but there are many others that can be found with a simple search.
