- Alexa *This site, which provides website rankings and traffic information, is often referred to as a leading provider of website metrics. However, their methods for tracking visitors are probably not as robust, and thus not as accurate, as higher quality commercial services especially for those sites listed outside the top 500 or so. Accessing top 100 sites by country is free as is list of global 500 but will need to pay for more. But you can locate traffic for any single site by entering its address.
- Audit Verification Services from ABC Interactive *Offer services as an Internet third-party auditor to ensure accuracy of online activity. Site provides background information on audits, white papers and may allow for purchase of audit reports.
- Audit Verification Services from I/Pro *Another firm offering website traffic verification.
- comScore *Provider of Internet traffic measurements including its Media Metrix product. This site offers only a few free reports.
- Google Analytics *Free service from Google allowing website operators to easily measure site traffic by entering simple coding on each page of a site. Data is accessed via web interface and the number and scope of reports are impressive.
- Interactive Advertising Bureau Ad Campaign Measurement and Audit Guidelines *This trade group site includes information that helps define techniques and measurement methods for online advertising.
- Nielsen/NetRatings *Leading Internet traffic measurement services backed by the television ratings people at Nielsen.
