• Ask *Search engine that has a long history but has always lagged behind others.
• Feedster *A search engine that indexes RSS feeds such as those offered by blogs. Has several nice features including the ability to limit search to specific URLs and see how many are linking to a specific RSS feed.
• Google *Who doesn't know these guys!
• ixquick *Good meta-search engine that searches a number of top engines and includes a feature that shows your keywords highlighted on the link you select.
• MSN *Microsoft's entry into the search business has a number of interesting options that are helping it compete against the others.
• SearchSystems - Public Records Locator *Search portal containing a large number of links to US and worldwide databases for locating public records such as license information, business registration, census data and much more. Most databases are free and associated with government sites while other links to commercial sites. However, they seem to intentionally slow down the free access in order to push their pay service.
• Topix *Good news collector site offering news from over 9,000 sources segmented into more than 100 industries ranging from major to developing industries. Good local news focus. One major downside though is limited search functionality.
• Vivisimo *Meat search engine that bases results on rankings from other engines such as Ask and MSN. The best feature is the clustering approach where overall results are further reduced in categories.
• Yahoo! *Old stand-by search engine that has invested heavily in search in order to keep within reach of Google.
