Alacra

Directed primarily at the corporate and investment researcher, the data sources found in this service are impressive and include access to company and industry profiles, market research reports, business news and much more. While much of what is offered is subscription-based and is expensive, a recent new option called AlacraStore does allow for purchase of individual reports and includes good search feature.

BizMiner

Provides access to market studies, financial reports, franchise information and other reports that appear to be mostly compiled from data available through government sources.

Datamonitor

Provider of reports covering several major industry groups with most reports being on the expensive side. Reports can be located via the Research Store.

DowJones Factiva

Provides access to thousands of publications, company information. The cost is fairly reasonable for individual users, however, access to commercial market research reports is limited.

eMarketer

This research provider focuses mostly on Internet and technology markets. They are considered research aggregators since they gather statistics presented in research reports produced by other sources and then present their own take on what is happening. Basic abstracts and some stats are free, detailed reports are fee based.

Euromonitor International

Publishes in both print format and online many reports dealing with market intelligence in numerous industries. These publications include several global market share reports as well as studies of specific product markets. However, all reports are very expensive and most likely only available to the well-funded researcher.

Forrester

Market research firm that focuses mostly on the technology industry and allows for purchase of its extensive offering of research reports.

GFK Mediamark

Most likely only accessible from a university library, the reports offered by this firm are numerous including results of surveys administered to a large sampling of consumers on a variety of consumer and media issues. Results are then packaged in a format that provides insight into consumer decision making, product usage, advertising preferences and more.

Global Information

This site is a supplier of high-end market reports that have a strong leaning toward Asian markets. While expensive, many samples of reports can be had for free (with registration).

HighBeam Research

The research site targets their services to businesses, teachers and students by providing access to library of hundreds of magazines, newspapers, transcripts and more. They also offer a more specialized Highbeam Business area targeted to business customers.  Fees for all areas seem reasonable.

Hoover's Online

Provides profiles, financial data and other information on thousands of companies. A small amount of information is free, including basic company profiles while more in-depth material requires a subscription which is somewhat affordable for individuals or small businesses. They also sell concise industry reports.

Housewares MarketWatch

Quarterly report from International Housewares Association that provides data on consumer purchases of houseware products based on point-of-sales data for 52 product categories. Nice resource considering it is free!

KnowX

For a fee this site offers background searches of people and companies by searching mostly government databases such as legal records, real estate records professional license records, telephone numbers and others.

Lexis-Nexis

This top online data source offers a dizzying array of products for business and legal research but is not really available for individual use.

Market Share Reporter

Published by Gale, this publication has been a mainstay in university libraries for years. Essentially it provides summaries, culled from many sources, of market share information for numerous product categories (though some information tends to be dated). The publication is expensive and for individuals is probably best viewed at a library (probably in the reference section).

MarketResearch.com

This site acts as a distributor and publisher of marketing research reports. It has alliances with a large number of market research firms and also produces some material through its PackagedFacts research group. Also, they may allow for purchase of smaller sections of a big report by using their “Buy by the Slice” program.

Mintel

Leading UK consumer research firm, this site offers hundreds of research reports covering mostly consumer products markets. Individual reports can be purchased but be prepared to pay a steep price.

Moody's Analytics

Offers reports that look at industries mostly from a macro perspective rather than individual companies. While a lot of this deals with economic analysis there can also be good marketing metric and information found in these reports.

Nielsen MyBestSegments

This was formerly branded under the Claritas name, that is well known for its psychographic database, PRIZM.  It is now part of leading research firm Nielsen which offers online access to many consumer and business reports that are useful for targeting consumers and businesses, especially in a geographic manner. Reports can be purchased to meet needs.

ProQuest Statistical Collections

Offers several resources for locating statistical information mainly produced by governmental agencies.
