1 ABC News - Money
Business site for U.S. television news service
2 Academic Marketing Associations
Includes listing of non-U.S. based associations. From Paul Driessen.
3 Accenture - Research and Insights
This site for a leading consulting firm provides access to free reports and case studies covering almost all major industries. Can search by industry, subject, date and more.
4 AllExperts
This free service that allows visitors to pose new questions to supposed experts in many different fields including some in specific industries. Can also search through the database for previously answered questions. This service tends to be more consumer-oriented (i.e., non-business questions) than other services.
5 American Society of Association Executives
While the organization running the site is primarily an association for those in the association business, they do offer a searchable database called Gateway to Associations for locating trade associations (presumably their member’s sites). Search filtering can be done by US state, country and keyword. While not nearly as in-depth as other sources it is FREE!
6 Annual Report Service
This site offers links to thousands of annual reports in both HTML and PDF formats though to access requires a registration (free).
7 Archive.org
Interesting site that is building a large database of websites as these have appeared over time and thus may prove useful for historical research. By entering a web address in its Wayback Machine search area, this site may offer screenshots of how a website appeared in the past. In some cases as far back (far back in Internet time!) as 1996. Unfortunately some sites to not always appear.
8 Associations on the Net - Internet Public Library
Searchable database of hundreds of associations that maintain websites.
9 Authors and Experts
Provides an online searchable resource for members of the media or for event coordinators looking for topical experts, authors, and speakers. If you fall into the category of expert, author or speaker you can sign up to be listed.
10 BBC - Business
Business site of U.K and international news service.
11 Bitpipe
Primarily a reseller of technology-related syndicated research reports though it does offer access to a modest amount of free (though users must register) industry provided case studies and white papers.
12 Bloomberg
Site of U.S. business news service.
13 Bowkers
The Books in Print people offer two sources for finding publisher's websites: a categorized listing in its Publishers Homepages site and a searchable database in its literarymarketplace.com site which requires registration (free) to use.
14 Bureau of Labor Statistics
This site is the principal fact-finding agency for the US Federal Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics. Statistics found here include employment and unemployment rates, and consumer price index, wholesaler price index and producer price index, consumer expenditure, labor productivity and much more. Also contains a good links page for finding other statistical information from the US Government and International Governments. Part of the US Department of Labor
15 Business Plan Archive
In the span of a few years millions of dollars where given to Internet businesses that in retrospect were really bad investments. This site offers a facinating retrospective of the dot-com boom era by providing information on over 2000 companies many of which did not survive. At its best the site provides extensive information on many of the failed dot-coms including presenting the company's business plan.
16 Call Center Associations
Listing of associations and groups that have some connection (this is a stretch for some that are listed!) with the call center or CRM market. From CallCenterDepot.
17 CAROL
Offers free (though must register) access to over 3000 annual reports for companies in Asia, Europe and US. Searchable by company name, industry, stock exchange and geographic region.
18 CBS News - Business
Site for U.S. television news service
19 Census Bureau
Preeminent source of US demographic and economic statistics that contains several great resources including:
  • American Factfinder - provides excellent access to general population census information including a nice "search your street" feature which will display information and maps down to the census block level.
  • Current Industry Reports - offers monthly, quarterly and yearly production and product shipment reports on a number of manufacturing industries such as consumer electronics, major household appliances, textiles and several more. However, be aware that not all industries are represented and some information is only available on a yearly basis.
  • Economic Census - released every five years, the information found in these reports provides an excellent glimpse at industrial activity including the Industry Series report that offers separate reports for many industries and shows the number of businesses within an industry, sales volume, number of employees, and more.
  • Data Access Tools - a page that provides links to statistical tools and software downloads that can be used to further analyze census information.
  • IDB Summary Demographic Data - shows population estimates and projected growth rates for most countries.
  • Statistical Abstracts - offers access to in-depth social and economic statistics that are updated each year. Even better this site provides access to versions of the Abstract going back to 1881.
20 ClickZ Stats
Good all around information site focusing on Internet, technology and business issues including regular summaries of research studies performed by market research companies and a very nice Stats Toolbox which offers summary results of various key statistics.
