Department of Commerce

The Commerce site offers several good options for searching for business and economic data. Some of the available information includes:

  • Bureau of Economic Analysis - Contains estimates that illuminate key national, international, and regional aspects of the US economy.
  • E-Stats- This section focuses on technology and e-commerce reports (including quarterly retail e-commerce sales), studies and statistics.
  • National Technical Information Services - Offers a vast collection of purchasable US Government publications produced by numerous agencies. Many reports include good information on both US and international markets. Topics are wide ranging but the Advanced Search feature (click on Advanced Search tab) allows for category filtering.

Directory of Associations

This site claims a database of over 34,000 associations, however, users must pay a fairly steep fee to access.

This publication is generally considered the leader in listing trade associations and currently contains information on over 100,000 international non-profit associations. Listings can also be found in an online version called Associations Unlimited. However, the publication is very expensive and access is best obtained through a university library or possibly through one of the higher cost online databases.

ESOMAR's List of International MR Associations

Contains an extensive international listing and searchable directory of over 1600 international marketing research organizations though the search function is a little limited.

Federation of International Trade Associations

Information on over 450 international trade associations, however, search of directory appears to be somewhat limited with full access being restricted to association members.

Fedstats

Billed as one-stop shopping for federal statistics this federal government site offers access to a wide range of statistics produced by more than 70 federal government agencies. Coverage is broad and may be valuable for many research topics. Includes easy to use search feature.

Google Scholar

Scholars and students will really like this feature that allows for search of academic articles and books. In some cases full text articles are freely available and in other cases abstracts are offered. For non-full text articles, users can either access in normal ways (e.g., through university library) or possibly purchase online. While the search functionality is okay it is somewhat limited and not as robust as Google Advanced Search. But in time this could be an excellent addition to scholarly research.

H-Demog Discussion Network

Offers online discussion and resources related to the history of demographics.

Housewares Industry Publications

Fairly extensive listing of trade magazines covering numerous areas of the housewares industry.
