19th Century Advertising

Harper's Weekly Magazine has gathered together a database containing over 40,000 advertisements that appeared from 1857-1871. Users must register to access the full database. Registration is free, however, it requires a static IP address which may be a problem for some.

D'Arcy Collection at the University of Illinois

University of Illinois collection of nearly 2 million ads from 1880-1970. Online search is very limited (alpha index only) and access to ads is only available for those who visit the libary. The University also has an additional archive called the Woodward Collection which is even larger than D'Arcy but there is no apparent online search feature.
